Devon D-Day 2019, Saunton Sands Beach
This popular and annual event comes together thanks to the work of "Friends of the Assault Training Center" and will be attended by the 304th Panzergrenadiers and the 2nd Devons.
The D-Day re-enactment is an opportunity to showcase how soldiers arrived at Saunton Sands beach for their training in 1944, and to educate children about why it took place.
The free show includes a WW2 Vehicle Convoy starting at Cobbaton Combat Collection and arriving at Saunton Sands for midday. There may be Spitfire flyovers if this can be arranged.
The Devon D-Day demonstrations and activities continue on Sunday with over 70 war vehicles, including Sherman tanks.
Take a step back in time with this family event and enjoy:
The WW2 Living History Association - an association of re-enactors whose aim is to display the equipment, uniforms and personal items of the armies that operated in Europe in WW2.
The work of the Assault Training Center Friends group - a not for profit organisation who research, educate and preserve the history of the US Army Assault Training Center in North Devon.
And the 304th Panzer Grenadier Regiment WW2 LHA - a WW2 re-enactment group based in the South West of England, portraying the 304th Panzer Grenadier Regiment of the 2nd Panzer Division.
