A chef de partie (also known as a section chef) reports to the senior chef. In a large kitchen, the chef de partie usually manages a small team of workers. They must keep the team organised so that dishes go out on time and the work area remains clean and orderly. However, in smaller kitchens, they may work independently as the only person in their section.
A chef de partie apprenticeship will give you the skills to run a section of a kitchen. This could be the fish section, the grill, sautéing or on vegetables.

12 months minimum
45 Hours per week
Negotiable dependent on qualification and age (for example if you have already completed a Commis Chef Apprenticeship)
- Have a desire to work in the hospitality industry
- Grade C or above in GCSE English & Maths. If the apprentice has not achieved this, they will need to pass English & Maths Functional Skills Level 2 during their apprenticeship
- Must not be taking part in full-time education
- A UK resident
- Aged 18 years or over
You could continue to work up through the Academy with the expectation to become a senior culinary chef and/or into the Management Academy.
