Devon Walking Routes

Hartland Quay to Bude

Distance: 15 miles
Difficulty: Challenging

The Hartland Quay to Bude section is perfect for seasoned walkers, offering steep ascents, rugged cliffs, and sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean. Starting at Hartland, you’ll trek along cliffs that have been shaped by the elements, discover secret coves, and maybe even spot a few seals. 

Woolacombe to Ilfracombe

Distance: 6 miles
Difficulty: Moderate

For a walk that combines scenic beaches and gentle cliff paths, the Woolacombe to Ilfracombe route is a must. You’ll pass Morte Point, known for its dramatic scenery and the chance to spot dolphins off the coast. The sandy beaches are ideal for a quick rest, and the picturesque village of Ilfracombe offers some delightful spots to stop for a coffee or an ice cream. 

Saunton to Croyde Bay

Distance: 3 miles
Difficulty: Easy

If you’re looking for a shorter route that’s big on views, the walk from Saunton to Croyde Bay is an excellent choice. Start at the sandy shores of Saunton Sands and follow the coastal path to Croyde Bay, a hotspot for surfers and beach lovers alike. 

Cornwall Walking Routes

Carlyon Bay to Polkerris

Distance: 4 miles
Difficulty: Moderate

This scenic walk starts right at Carlyon Bay, with its dramatic clifftop views, and heads toward the sheltered cove at Polkerris Beach. The path includes woodland and open coast views. Polkerris has a charming beach and a few cosy spots to grab a refreshment.

Falmouth to Maenporth

Distance: 3 miles
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate

A beautiful route along the coastline, starting from Falmouth’s Swanpool Beach and leading to Maenporth. This walk is lined with wildflowers in spring and offers views of small coves and hidden beaches along the way. Maenporth Beach itself is a beautiful sandy stretch, and there’s a beachside café for refreshments before your return. Falmouth’s vibrant town is also great to explore before or after your walk.

Polperro to Looe

Distance: 5.5 miles
Difficulty: Moderate

Starting from the historic fishing village of Polperro, this walk follows the South West Coast Path to the bustling town of Looe. The path is steep in places, but you’re rewarded with scenic views over the coastline and both towns’ charming character. Looe has plenty of eateries for lunch before making your way back.
