Walk in
their footsteps

With the highly anticipated release of Salt Path, the cinematic adaptation of Raynor Winn's bestselling memoir, audiences are set to be moved by its powerful story of resilience and the restorative power of nature. For guests at a Brend Collection hotel, this story is more than a film, it's a journey that begins right on our doorstep.

Salt Path follows Raynor and Moth Winn, a couple who, after losing their home and grappling with a life-altering diagnosis, set out to walk the entire 630-mile South West Coast Path. What begins as an act of desperation becomes a transformative pilgrimage along one of Britain's most breathtaking trails.

The path winds through some of the UK’s most treasured natural and cultural landmarks, including 1 National Park, 5 National Landscapes, 2 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, 1 UNESCO Global Geopark, and 1 UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.

One of the standout locations featured in Salt Path is the Valley of the Rocks, a wild and otherworldly coastal valley near Lynton, North Devon. Its jagged cliffscape and roaming goats provide a cinematic backdrop that feels untouched by time. Just a short drive from Saunton Sands Hotel, The Barnstaple Hotel, The Park Hotel, The Imperial Hotel and The Royal & Fortescue Hotel

Further along the path lies Clovelly, a timeless fishing village known for its steep cobbled street and historic charm. With its whitewashed cottages and panoramic sea view, Clovelly captures the essence of the North Devon Coast, much like the spirit of the film.

Follow the path
to Cornwall

As the story unfolds, the couple's journey brings them to Cornwall, a region rich in coastal beauty and cultural heritage. Padstow, with its bustling harbour, and Newquay, known for its surf and sunsets, are not only beloved destinations but also key points along the Salt Path. Both are easily explored from our luxurious Cornish retreats, The Royal Duchy Hotel and The Carlyon Bay Hotel.

For guests staying at The Carlyon Bay Hotel, the trail passes right by the charming fishing villages of Fowey and Mevagissey, offering direct access to some of the most picturesque and historically rich stretches of the path. Meanwhile, at The Royal Duchy Hotel, the path runs near Pendennis Castle, a coastal fortress that can be seen in the distance from the hotel.

Also nearby is Rame Head, a headland steeped in history and solitude, offering sweeping views that echo the introspective of the film. It's a perfect place to reflect and walk in the footsteps of Raynor and Moth.
